Assistant Police Chief

The Town of Granite Falls Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of

Assistant Police Chief. The position is open until filled. The Assistant Police Chief reports to the Police Chief and performs administrative and law enforcement work including supervising daily operations of the department through subordinate supervisors, scheduling

employees, training, property and vehicle maintenance, conducting internal and external criminal and other investigations, performing crime and statistical analysis, special research and cost analyses, and assisting the Police Chief in budgeting, purchasing, and in the hiring, firing, disciplinary action, grievance hearings and promotion processes. This work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness and decisiveness. All work must be performed in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. Major Duties include, but are not limited to, assigning work to subordinates, problem solving and coaching, conflict resolution, observation of field performance of subordinates and maintaining records and reports for full compliance with all regulations and for effective management, decision making, and other duties as assigned. Work involves public contact, initiative and judgement. The Assistant Police Chief typically works 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (M-F) but is subject to emergency call-back work. The Assistant Police Chief will work in both indoor and outdoor environments in extreme temperatures and must be able to perform the basic life operational functions including exerting 50 lbs. of force on an occasional basis, 20 lbs. of force on a frequent basis and 10 lbs. of force on a constant basis. The successful candidate will have a two-year degree in criminal justice supplemented by law enforcement training and considerable supervisory experience in law enforcement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification is preferred. The position requires a valid NC Driver's License and the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. The Assistant Police Chief position is exempt from overtime. The salary range for this position is $48,514 to $72,771 and the starting salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications.
